JG Soutache & Beadjewelry at the Kolozsvári Magyar Napok Fashion Show
What happens when traditional Hungarian embroidery meets contemporary jewelry design and the world of fashion?
For me, the answer came to life at Threads of Time – Idők szövete, a special fashion show held during the Kolozsvári Magyar Napok, where JG Soutache & Beadjewelry stepped onto the red carpet as a brand for the first time.
The ArtWise Association organized its ninth fashion show as part of the Kolozsvári Magyar Napok, and this year I had the opportunity to participate with my jewelry.
Although I have already taken part in several fashion shows, this experience still had plenty of surprises in store for me. I found myself surrounded by professional, kind, flexible and passionate organizers and models.
And, honestly, there were moments when I felt like a complete beginner.
But I enjoyed every moment of it.
A collection almost three years in the making
For me, Threads of Time – Idők szövete was much more than a fashion show.
It fulfilled two dreams.
The first, and perhaps the most important, was seeing a collection that had been developing for almost three years finally come together as a complete story.
The collection was inspired by the world of traditional Hungarian embroidery.
I have loved traditional embroidery since childhood. Over the past few years, I have deliberately studied both traditional and contemporary embroidery techniques, not simply to reproduce historical patterns, but to understand them and reinterpret them through my own artistic language.
My goal has always been to show that embroidery does not belong only to the past.
Traditional embroidery can be timeless, contemporary and perfectly at home in modern fashion.
Just like pearls.
Pearl jewelry has been part of women’s wardrobes for centuries, yet pearls are once again highly fashionable today. In the same way, embroidery can be transformed into contemporary jewelry and accessories that feel relevant to the modern woman.
Eight jewelry sets inspired by Hungarian embroidery
I had the opportunity to present eight jewelry sets as part of the collection.
With these pieces, a creative journey that had been evolving for almost three years finally became complete.
Why did it take so long?
Because these are not quickly produced accessories.
With only one exception, every set took many weeks or even months to create.
Months?
Yes.
The embroidered belts alone took approximately six months each to complete, followed by almost another month to create the jewelry pieces that accompany them.
The reason is the extraordinary combination of techniques involved.
The collection brings together goldwork embroidery, traditional embroidery, bead embroidery, three-dimensional embroidery, soutache techniques and bead sculpture.
Each technique required not only practice, but a deep understanding of how different materials behave and how they can be combined without losing either their beauty or their wearability.
From traditional embroidery to contemporary jewelry
The motifs that inspired the collection came primarily from Kalocsa embroidery, Matyó embroidery, Beregi cross-stitch and Úri embroidery.
Among the most important motifs are the pomegranate, rose and tulip.
These are deeply connected to nature and carry rich symbolic meanings within Hungarian folk art.
For me, they became much more than decorative elements.
They became a way of celebrating femininity.
The entire collection is built around the idea of the woman: her strength, beauty, sensitivity, individuality and connection with nature.
This is why the collection combines traditional symbolism with contemporary jewelry design.
The aim was never to create something that looks like a historical costume accessory.
Instead, I wanted to create wearable art inspired by heritage.
Precious materials and meticulous craftsmanship
The materials used in the collection are just as important as the techniques.
I worked with silk and gold threads, high-quality Japanese and Czech beads, shell pearls, freshwater cultured pearls, gemstones and porcelain.
Every material brings its own texture, character and visual language.
Bringing these elements together required extensive learning and research.
I wanted to understand not only the meaning behind the symbols that inspired the collection, but also to develop the technical knowledge necessary to work confidently with both traditional materials and contemporary combinations.
The result had to satisfy two seemingly different requirements:
it had to be worthy of the runway, while remaining possible to wear in everyday life.
Wearable art for the modern woman
Some pieces in the collection are relatively simple and easy to incorporate into an everyday wardrobe.
Others are more elaborate and can be considered genuine pieces of wearable art.
Yet they all share one essential characteristic:
they are made to be worn.
They are lightweight, designed to adapt naturally to the female body, and created with comfort and movement in mind.
This is an important part of the philosophy behind JG Soutache & Beadjewelry.
I believe that a handmade jewelry piece can be artistic, highly detailed and unique without becoming impractical.
An exceptional piece of jewelry should not have to remain inside a display case.
It should become part of the woman who wears it.
When a handmade jewelry piece comes to life
One of the most touching parts of the fashion show was seeing the models wearing my jewelry.
They were incredibly kind, and each of them wore the pieces with such genuine joy that it meant a great deal to me.
When I create a piece of jewelry, it begins as an idea, a combination of materials, colors, textures and techniques.
But something changes when a woman puts it on.
The jewelry comes to life.
Looking at the photographs from the fashion show, I can see exactly what I hope my jewelry will give to the women who wear it: joy, confidence, pride and a sense of their own beauty.
Because that is ultimately what I want JG jewelry to inspire.
To feel:
I am a woman.
I am beautiful.
I am intelligent.
I am captivating.
I am radiant.
JG Soutache & Beadjewelry steps onto the red carpet
The second dream that came true during the Threads of Time – Idők szövete fashion show was perhaps even more symbolic.
For the first time, I stepped onto the red carpet with my jewelry as the JG Soutache & Beadjewelry brand.
It was a significant moment for me.
A brand does not appear overnight.
Behind that moment are years of learning, experimenting, creating, starting again, solving technical challenges and developing an artistic identity.
The red carpet simply gave me a moment when all of this could finally become visible.
For the first time, JG Soutache & Beadjewelry could officially present itself as a jewelry brand in the world of fashion.
And that is something I will always remember.
Threads of Time – where heritage meets modern fashion
For me, Threads of Time – Idők szövete is ultimately about the meeting of past and present.
It is about traditional Hungarian embroidery meeting contemporary jewelry design.
It is about handmade techniques meeting modern fashion.
And most importantly, it is about understanding that tradition does not necessarily have to remain unchanged in order to be preserved.
We can carry it forward.
We can reinterpret it.
We can make it our own.
And we can transform it into jewelry that a modern woman can wear with the same pleasure and pride with which women of earlier generations wore the adornments of their time.
The end of one story – and the beginning of another
The Kolozsvári Magyar Napok fashion show was not simply a single event for me.
It contained almost three years of work.
Years of studying.
Research.
Experimentation.
Hundreds of hours of craftsmanship.
Weeks and months spent creating individual pieces.
And finally, eight jewelry sets standing together as one complete collection.
Threads of Time – Idők szövete tells the story of that journey.
And perhaps the most important message I take away from the experience is this:
A handmade jewelry piece is never simply an object.
It carries time, knowledge, tradition, creativity and a small part of its maker.
That is what I want to pass on through every JG jewelry piece.
Because wearing unique handmade jewelry feels special.
But wearing a piece of jewelry that allows you to recognize something of yourself in it feels even more special.
